If you’re excited by the intersection of cutting-edge AI and real-world governance challenges—and want to shape a safer future for AI—this is the place for you.
Role Overview
Whisperly AI is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer in the US to architect, build, and scale the core backend systems that power our AI governance platform. You will work on distributed services, APIs, data pipelines, and integrations that enable secure, reliable, and compliant AI deployments for our customers.
You’ll collaborate closely with AI/ML engineers, product managers, and compliance leaders to translate regulatory and governance requirements into robust backend capabilities. As an early contributor, you will influence architectural decisions and help establish engineering best practices across the organization.
This role offers significant ownership, technical autonomy, and the opportunity to shape the backbone of a mission-critical platform.
What You'll Do
Design, implement, and maintain scalable backend services powering Whisperly’s AI governance capabilities
Build secure, high-performance APIs and microservices that support both internal systems and customer-facing applications
Collaborate with AI/ML teams to integrate model lifecycle management, evaluation workflows, RAG systems, and data pipelines
Architect systems that support strong compliance, auditability, and observability across the platform
Develop and maintain data models, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native infrastructure components
Implement best practices for testing, monitoring, deployment, and performance optimization
Work cross-functionally with product, security, and compliance teams to translate requirements into technical specifications
Mentor engineers and contribute to establishing engineering culture, coding standards, and architectural principles.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience building backend systems, distributed services, or cloud-native architectures
- Expertise in at least one modern backend language (e.g., Python, Go, Rust, Java, or Node.js)
- Deep experience with designing and building RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), microservices, and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL), caching systems, and message queues.
- Strong understanding of system design, scalability, performance optimization, and security best practices
- Ability to work cross-functionally and translate abstract requirements into robust engineering solutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working on AI/ML platforms, distributed data pipelines, or model-serving infrastructure
Familiarity with compliance, security, or governance-oriented architectures (auditing, logging, RBAC, policy engines, etc.)
Experience in early-stage startups or building 0→1 backend systems
Knowledge of event streaming tools (Kafka, Pulsar) or orchestration frameworks (Airflow, Prefect)
Exposure to privacy-focused or safety-critical system design.
What We Offer
Competitive salary and equity package
Fully remote role with flexible working hours (US-based)
Opportunity to build foundational backend systems for a category-defining AI governance platform
Work alongside experts across software engineering, AI, security, and compliance
Mission-driven culture committed to building safe and trustworthy AI for the world.
How to Apply
If you’re passionate about building the future of AI governance and want to work on high-impact problems alongside a world-class team, we’d love to hear from you.
